Neel and Associates is a local CPA firm that provides complete accounting, tax and consulting services to businesses and individuals. Our work encompasses tax planning and preparation, business advisory services, and financial planning, including education, retirement, and estate planning. Our team is made up of exceptional individuals with strong educational backgrounds and diverse professional experience:
Janet L. Neel, CPA, CVA Prior to her accounting career, Janet participated in her family’s retail and lodging business in Australia and was a marketing manager for a regional dairy distributor in San Diego, CA. She received her bachelor degree in accounting from Idaho State University and achieved the fifth highest score in Idaho on the May 1993 Uniform CPA exam. Janet started the firm in 1996. The firm has grown steadily since that time with an emphasis in helping people to identify and realize their financial goals. Janet is expanding her focus into Forensic Accounting. Forensic Accounting is the art and science of investigating people and money. This work includes determining the correct and fair child support payment, finding and valuing all assets and liabilities in a divorce or shareholder dispute, investigating fraud or embezzlement, and any situation where the cash flow in and out is of importance. Janet is excited about this field and is committed to finding the fair and equitable outcome of each and every case. Janet is a past President of the Twin Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, a graduate of the Chamber Leadership Program, and enjoyed her opportunity to serve as Chairman of the Beautification Committee for several years. Janet has chaired the Membership Committee for the Idaho Society of Certified Public Accountants and has served as an officer for the Rotary Club. In her spare time Janet enjoys dressing like a penguin and competing in the horse sport of Dressage.
Judith Bragg Judy was born and raised in Bangor, Maine, the oldest of four children. She met and married her high school sweetheart, Rodney. They bought and moved into her grandparents' house in Veazie, Maine along the Penobscot River. They lived in Veazie for 26 years where they raised their two daughters, Kimberly and Amanda. Judy was a Girl Scout leader for both daughters' troops all the way through their senior years in high school and later served as a leader trainer for five years. The Girl Scouts was an important part of their family life, allowing her and her daughters to travel to many different states and even Mexico and London. Judy also served on the Recreation Committee for the town and was an active member of the PTO. Judy started out working for the Maine District Court as a court clerk. She then went to work in her parents' family business doing the bookkeeping and dispatching repairmen for the small heating company. While her children were little, she worked part-time for a small CPA firm. Judy then took a position with a large CPA firm in Bangor, Maine where she worked for 17 years. Judy handled a large payroll clientele, assisting in all aspects of payroll preparation and reporting. She also enjoyed setting up clients on computer systems such as Quickbooks, and providing onsite training. Judy prepared financial statements for clients and did the accounts receivable and accounts payable for the firm. She served as a notary for the State of Maine for many years. Her expertise and skills are now being utilized at Neel & Associates to handle all of the client payrolls, prepare financial statements and provide QuickBooks setup and training. Judy and her husband decided to relocate to Twin Falls in 2006 to escape the long, dark, cold Maine winters. Their youngest daughter and son-in-law were happy to have them relocate here. Her other daughter, a 6th grade math teacher, lives in New Hampshire. Judy enjoys volunteering at her church's coffee shop and helping to host bands that come to the church to perform. She also enjoys reading, cooking, meeting new people, and exploring the beautiful State of Idaho which she tells us is very different from Maine. Judy is a Certified QuickBooks Pro Advisor and a Notary Public for the State of Idaho.
Connie Hunt Connie Hunt grew up with five sisters and one brother on a dairy farm in Jerome, Idaho, where a strong work ethic was enjoyed by all. Connie graduated from ITT Technical Institute in Boise and entered the work force in office administration. Connie returned to the dairy life and remained in the dairy business for 16 years. She was immersed in the management and the daily activities of a dairy farm, including cash budgeting, payroll, accounts payable, dairy records maintenance, calf raising, milk testing, and, of course, driving truck for the harvest. Later, Connie hired on with a local retail store as a cashier and was promoted to office manager. She was responsible for reconciling the daily sales, maintaining the house charge accounts, tracking inventory, accounts payable, special order purchasing, cashier training and evaluations, and processing payroll time sheets. In 2004, Connie became actively involved in her husband’s business. She set up the entire accounting system, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. Connie also prepared monthly adjusted trial balances and financial reports. She set up a system to help reorder and track parts, and submitted warranty claims for customers. Connie enjoys spending time with her husband, Dennis, as well as their six boys and their families. Her favorite activities are snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, camping, and prospecting for gold. Connie is a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor.
Misty Kerr Misty was born and raised in Twin Falls, Idaho where she enjoyed the freedom of living in a small town. She is the youngest of three children with one brother and one sister. Misty graduated from Twin Falls High School in 2000 and went right to work in the operations department at a local bank. Misty was responsible for balancing all transactions for their branches. She was also in charge of balancing the incoming deposits and returning all NSF checks to the Federal Reserve. She printed the monthly statements and oversaw the training of the night crew. In 2007 Misty was pursued by and went to work for a local seed company where she managed the entire inventory of seed products. She performed the lot assigning for the dry bean seed and prepared the paper work for loads that were shipping out. She also prepared the load sheets and shipping documents for international shipping. Misty was there until they closed their doors earlier this year. Misty enjoys spending time with her husband Chris and their two boys Alexander and Jonathan. While her husband works on a gold mine in Alaska during the summers Misty enjoys taking the kids swimming, to the park, and camping. She is enjoying teaching them how to fish and ride their bikes.
Ann Dennis Ann grew up on a farm in Northern Idaho with 2 brothers and 2 sisters. She enjoyed the farm work, horseback riding, and school. She was active in 4-H and her local church youth group. Ann attended the University of Idaho on a Potlatch Forest scholarship and graduated with a degree in Agriculture Management. After graduation, she continued her education and met the requirements to teach high school math. She taught math at Kamiah High School for one year. She and her husband, Wayne, were married the following summer and she moved to Burley, where he worked for the Production Credit Association. In Burley, Ann began her bookkeeping career with Amalgamated Sugar. Ann and Wayne have three daughters and Ann was a stay at home mom until the youngest started school. She was active as a 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher, and volunteer at school. Ann and Wayne seldom missed a sporting event as the girls participated in volleyball, basketball, track, and cross country. While the girls were growing up, Ann worked part-time for a farm management firm and for H&R Block during tax season. Later, Ann worked for a large retail lumber yard as office manager and later as credit manager. Ann and Wayne live on a small farm between Buhl and Filer. She enjoys horseback riding, gardening, and photography. She has 7 grandchildren and enjoys spending time with them. Ann has been with Neel & Associates since 2002. Ann is semi-retired but can't resist the fulfillment she gets from helping people with their income tax needs.
